… As Health District III Begins Administration of Covid-19 Vaccines
The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Health District III, Dr. Monsurat Adeleke has urged residents to embrace Covid-19 vaccination to boost their immunity during the flag-off ceremony of the administration of Covid-19 vaccines for residents of Epe and environs on Monday.
She emphasised the vital role of vaccination in safeguarding human health and the community, saying that one of the safest ways to curb the spread of COVID-19 is by taking the required dosages of the vaccine.
While correcting the wrong notion among the citizens that the war against COVID-19 was over, the Permanent Secretary disclosed that there is an increasing new wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, hence the need for the populace to be alerted.
Dr. Adeleke maintained that getting vaccinated is not just a personal choice, but a civic responsibility meant to protect oneself, neighbours, and most especially the elderly, immunocompromised, and young children. “It is an act of solidarity and empathy”, she added.
According to her, the more people get vaccinated, the closer we can achieve herd immunity, which will result in fewer infections, hospitalizations, and deaths. “The Covid-19 vaccine is our best chance at ending this pandemic. I implore you to make an informed decision, consult with healthcare professionals, and consider the well-being of our communities. Let us unite to conquer COVID-19 and build a safer, healthier future for all”, she averred.
Also speaking at the flag-off of the administration of COVID-19 vaccines for Epe residents and an enlightenment session on the health benefits of the COVID-19 vaccine, the Chairperson of Epe Local Government, Princess Surah Olayemi Animashaun stressed the importance of educating community members about positive health-seeking behaviours.
She expressed her desire for Epe to serve as an example, highlighting the Local Authority’s proactive engagement with the State Government, particularly through initiatives like providing health insurance for some residents.
