Recall that amid a raging economic hardship worsened by rising inflation in the country, on February 15, His Excellency, Governor Sanwo-Olu, announced among many interventions, to open up a Sunday market (Ounje Eko) at discounted prices in order to bring succour to the people of the state.
Hence, the commencement of the 25% Ounje Eko discounted food market today with Epe selected as one of the locations.
The Chairman of Epe LGA, Hon. (Princess) Surah O. Animashaun, represented by the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Rahmon Saheed and the Supervisor for Environment, Hon. Odupe Fuad, were on ground to monitor the situation at the location- St. Theresa Roman Catholic Pry School.
The Chairman appreciates the governor for this initiative and expressed satisfaction at the turn out as well as the comportment of people at the venue.
Residents also expressed their excitement with the initiative noting that the governor truly is people-centered.
In her goodwill message, the Chairman urged residents to take advantage of this great opportunity to purchase staple food items like rice, beans, garri, bread, eggs, tomatoes, and pepper at discounted prices during the duration of the exercise.
“You’re to go along with either your Cowry card or ATM card to be able to purchase any of the 25% discounted food items,” the Chairman said.
On her part, Princess Surah also promised to compliment the efforts of the state government by also doling out additional palliatives to ease the cost of living.
