The Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon. (Princess) Surah Animashaun FHTI, has initiated several innovative welfare programs aimed at improving the lives of residents and providing a safety nest, especially for the most vulnerable members of the LGA.
One of such program is the “Epe Food Bank Initiative,” which provides quarterly food supplies to over 5,000 low-income households. Another program which is “Healthcare Outreach,” offers free medical services, including screenings and treatments to rural communities.
Additionally, the”Women, Men and Youth Empowerment” scheme provides skills training and entrepreneur support to women, men and young people, helping them become economically independent.
The impact of these programs aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty and improving the overall well-being of residents have earned the Chairman widespread commendation, awards, and acceptance.
The local government has been recognized as a model for effective governance and social welfare provision, resulting in significant reductions in poverty, hunger, and health disparities.
The Chairman’s commitment to grassroots development has fostered a sense of community and social cohesion, with residents expressing gratitude and appreciation for the programs.
As a result, the Chairman has received numerous awards, including the “Best Welfare Oriented Chairman” award, and has been invited to share best practices at national and international forums.
At the heart of Princess Surah’s Welfare and Empowerment Initiative is a commitment to inclusiveness and accessibility.
Some of the welfare packages include: Practical hands-on skill training and Empowerment of 500 participants/presentation of starter packs, Palliative programs for Epe residents in commemoration of the Eid-Kabir festival, Empowerment and distribution of farming tools to 200 farmers in Epe LGA, Lent/Ramadan palliatives to Christians and Muslims to facilitate their religious obligations, Itoju Awon Agba Food/Health Package Initiative for the elderlies, Food palliative for market men and women in Epe, Cash palliative program for all the aged women in Epe LG, Empowerment of entrepreneurs (youths) with soft loans and equipment to kickstart their businesses, Monthly staff birthday celebration, Food palliative program for the school children, Provision of technical and financial support and tools to artisans in Epe, Epe Food Bank Initiative for the distribution of food and cash to over 5000 households in Epe, Food palliative for the Epe LG staff, Cash palliative program for the vulnerable women in Epe.
Others are: Presentation of official vehicles to all the Legislative members, Exco members and all the 4 Obas in Epe Local Government, Cash empowerment for the farmers, Food palliative for the Youth corpers, Presentation of 18-seater bus to the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employee (NULGE) in Epe Local Government, Presentation of official vehicles to all the Special Advisers in Epe LG, Training for Political Office Holders, International First Aid Exhibition Secour 2024, Paris France, Councillors and Supervisors training retreats oversea in Turkey to expand their network, knowledge and professional expertise.
The aforementioned programs are evident demonstration of the Executive Chairman’s charismatic approach to improving the welfare of the people regardless of tribal, religious and political affiliations.
With track record in implementing effective, unconditional and excellent humanitarian service to her community as a compassionate, caring, and magnanimous leader, more palliative programs are expected to be rolled out as part of the deliberate commitment of her administration to ameliorate the economic challenges of the people.
