The Lagos Trauma Conference has marked a significant milestone for Epe General Hospital, upgrading it to a Federal medical Center.
This upgrade is a testament to the collaborative efforts of Lagos State and Epe’s prominent figures, who have been working tirelessly to advance specialized medical care for Epe residents, Gov. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Dr. Tunji Alausa, Oba Kamorudeen Ishola Animashaun, Oba Sefiu Adewale Bamgbopa Eshinlokun 1, Alhaji Akanni Seriki Bamu, Hon. Wale Raji, Hon. Abiodun Tobun and Hon. (Princess) Surah Animashaun FHTI of honourable mention.
The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, and the Hon. Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Tunji Alausa performed the handover ceremony, formalizing the upgrade with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Lagos State Government and the Federal Government.
This significant milestone was celebrated at the conference, attended and witnessed by prominent figures including Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, Member, House of Representatives for Epe Federal Constituency, Hon. Wale Raji, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Akin Abayomi, Epe Local Government Chairman, Hon. (Princess) Surah Animashaun FHTI, Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA Chairman, Hon. Wale Anomo, and Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Chairman, Hon. Sesan Olowa, who represented the Conference 57 Chairman, Hon. Kolade Alabi David, Akogun Ademola Lawal, Oloritun Ajakanri, and Oloritun Dada who represented Oloja-in Council, SSG, Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries and all Directors of Health Agencies.
The Federal Medical Center, Epe, will offer various specialized services, including:
- Paediatric Care with a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
- Medical ICU for critical care
- Advanced Surgical Procedures
- Specialized Obstetric and Gynaecological Care
- State-of-the-art Emergency and Trauma Center
- Nephrology Services
- Radiological Services
- Orthopaedic Services
- Burns and Plastic Surgery Services
Other notable developments include:
- Establishment of a School of Nursing
- Creation of the Federal College of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (FEDCAM) in Igbooye. In collaboration with FMC, Epe, will offer clinical training for students in fields such as acupuncture, naturopathy, homeopathy, chiropractic medicine, osteopathy, and herbal medicine.
During the conference, Governor Sanwo-Olu announced plans to establish the Lagos State University of Medicine (LASUMED) to address the shortage of medical professionals.
Additionally, a new General Hospital will be constructed in Epe to replace the old one.
This upgrade and expansion of healthcare services aim to make Epe a medical tourism destination, transforming healthcare delivery in Lagos State.
Hon. (Princess) Surah Animashaun FHTI in her goodwill message, expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the Federal and State Governments for the upgrade, stating that it marks a significant improvement in healthcare delivery available to the community. She thanked Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, Hon. Wale Raji, and Minister of State for Health, Dr, Tunji Alausa for their tireless efforts in making the upgrade a reality.
