The Epe Local Government Chairman, Hon. (Princess) Surah Animashaun, in collaboration with the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board, is pleased to announce the launch of a Polio Outbreak Response program, aimed at providing essential immunization services to children aged 0-59 months, residing within the Epe LGA.
This initiative, scheduled to take place from Saturday, 18th January to Tuesday, 21st January 2025, is part of Epe Local Government’s efforts to improve public health outcomes and maintain a polio-free status in our community. We are committed to ensuring that all eligible children are immunized against polio and other vaccine- preventable diseases.
The Polio Outbreak Response program will involve a house-to-house vaccination campaign, targeting children aged 0 – 59 months, with the aim of ensuring that all eligible children are immunized against polio and other vaccine- preventable diseases. The program will be implemented by a team of trained health workers, who will be deployed to all wards within the Epe LGA.
The Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon. (Princess) Surah Animashaun FHTI, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating: “As a responsible and responsive government, we are committed to ensuring that our citizens, particularly our children, have access to quality health care services. This Polio Outbreak Response program is a critical component of our efforts to protect our children against vaccine-preventable diseases and maintain a polio-free status in our community.” The Executive Secretary, Lagos State Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Bowale, also reiterated the Board’s commitment to supporting the Epe Local Government in implementing this program, stating: “We are pleased to collaborate with the Epe Local Government in launching this Polio Outbreak Response program. This initiative aligns with our mandate to strengthen the state’s primary health care system and improve health outcomes for all Lagosians.”
Dr. Leke Awolesi, Medical Officer of Health, Epe Local Government, added: “I want to commend the Chairman, Hon. (Princess) Surah Animashaun FHTI, for her tireless efforts in promoting the health and well-being of our citizens. This Polio Outbreak Response program is a testament to her commitment to protecting our children against vaccine-preventable diseases. As the Medical Officer of Health, I can attest to the importance of this initiative. Polio is a highly infectious disease that can cause permanent paralysis and even death. Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent polio, and I urge all parents and caregivers to ensure their children are vaccinated during this campaign.”
