As a proactive measure to curb the resultant flooding that might arise from the heavy rainfall predicted by NiMET, the Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon. Princess Surah O. Animashaun FHTI, has swung into action by making available tractors to help clear encumbrances on the Epe bridge.
The latest clearing of weeds, man-made holes and stumps on Epe long bridge is coming on the heels of the announcement by the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMET) of the expected heavy downpour expected in Lagos this week.
This exercise is expected to prevent possible flooding, guarantee safety of lives and ensure free flow of traffic on the bridge during the rainy season.
The exercise was monitored by the Environmental Health Officers to ensure that weeds and all other encumbrances that could aid flooding are effectively done.
The Chairman warned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse that blocks drainage channels as well as open defecation on the bridge.
She noted that anyone caught in the act would be made to face the law so as to serve as a deterrent to others.
Speaking, the environmental officers monitoring the exercise said “We are here on the orders of the Chairman to make sure that the weeds, collectors and drainage channels are all cleared up to ensure quick and free flow of water and traffick especially during heavy downpours.”
