In another practical demonstration of her unwavering commitment towards revitalizing the health sector in Lagos State, the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu launched an initiative dedicated to the elimination of Tuberculosis (TB). This is another commendable health-related initiative that deserves all the necessary support that will be channeled towards the elimination of dreadful diseases.
The Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon. (Princess) Surah Animashaun FHTI, has been honored as the Community Champion and Ambassador for Tuberculosis (TB) elimination within Epe Local Government.
This prestigious recognition was conferred upon her by the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the event also featured the inauguration of the Lagos State TB Steering Committee and the Lagos STOP TB Partnership.
As part of this initiative, other female Conference 57 Chairmen were also decorated as TB Champions and Ambassadors in their respective council areas.
Additionally, the wives of Conference 57 Chairmen were tasked with leading grassroots advocacy towards TB eradication, leveraging their unique positions as women and spouses.
Dr. (Mrs) Sanwo-Olu charged the Chairmen to play vital roles in changing attitudes, debunking myths, and ensuring TB is treated with seriousness as the Lagos State Government has been taking proactive steps to combat TB, and this new initiative is a significant step towards ending the TB epidemic.
As a symbol of their investiture, all TB Champions were decorated and presented with roll-up banners to enhance the campaign and boost public awareness about free TB diagnosis, treatment, and support for patients.
Princess Animashaun described her investiture as a call to action and pledged to work closely with the First Lady to achieve the goal of eliminating TB in Lagos State.
She also promised to implement policies and mobilize resources to support TB control programs while fostering collaboration among government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and community leaders to strengthen the fight against TB.
Furthermore, she emphatically stated that: TB is a preventable and treatable disease. Let’s work together to educate our communities, promote early detection, and ensure access to quality healthcare”.
Pincess Surah expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Sanwo-Olu and all stakeholders involved in the fight against TB, reaffirming her commitment to achieving a TB-free Lagos.
This initiative is a significant step towards ending the TB epidemic in Lagos State, and Princess Animashaun’s leadership will undoubtedly play a crucial role in achieving this goal.
