Hundreds of people gathered in Epe Local Government Secretariat, yesterday, to pay their last respects to the victims of the tragic accident that occurred at Ayetoro Market on Monday, November 11, 2024. The solemn occasion was marked by heartfelt tributes and prayers for the departed souls.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat; Oloja of Epe Land, Oba Kamorudeen Ishola Animashaun; GAC Member, Alhaji Akanni Seriki-Bamu; Hon. Wale Raji, Hon. Abiodun Tobun, Hon. Segun Agbaje, Hon. Akeem Shittu, and Hon. Wale Anomo, Epe LGA Executive Members, Legislative Arm, Members of the Management Staff, Prominent Religious Leaders, Market Men and Women, NYCN and NURTW.
Dr. Obafemi Hamzat in his remarks expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families and announced that Alhaji Aliko Dangote had been informed and is committed to providing compensation to those affected.
He also urged religious leaders to continue praying for the peace, safety and prosperity of Epe and Lagos State.
Hon. Wale Raji, deeply saddened by the incident, pledged to initiate measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future. He expressed his heartfelt condolences and prayed for the deceased to attain Jannat-UI-Firdaus.
On his part, Hon. Abiodun Tobun said the incident came as a rude shock to him, and extended his sympathies to the residents of Epe. He outlined the steps being taken to prevent future occurrences.
Similarly, Hon. (Princess) Surah Animashaun, the Executive Chairman of Epe, offered her condolences and prayed for the victims to attain the highest level of Janna, and urged the families to find solace in the teachings of Quran 2:156.
After the prayer program, the Deputy Governor and dignitaries visited the General Hospital to check on the survivors – Mrs. Gbenle Oluwatoyin and Mrs. Okeowo Modinat. The next port of call was Temu to visit the family of Ariyo Anthonia’s parents to condole and sympathize with them.
Ariyo Anthonia, until her sudden demise was a Computer Science Year-Two Student of Lagos State Technical College, Odomola, Epe, and was involved in a tragic accident that happened on Monday, November 11, 2024, at Ayetoro.
This somber event demonstrates the community’s resilience and solidarity in the face of adversity. Chairman Animashaun’s efforts to support the families affected by the tragedy are a testament to her commitment to the well-being of Epe residents.
